Blacklisted Companies in South Africa

Stores can check your credit worthiness at the push of a button, but until recently the consumer had little way of checking the supplier's "worthiness" in South Africa. We could always fall back on Isabel Jone's Fair Deal (site now defunct) action AFTERWARDS but then the damage was already done!! Now a government initiative has been started where companies who have swindled consumers are now blacklisted on a computer system. There are two types of blacklists, those suppliers who have "repaired" the damage, and those who have not. Be wary though, because it does not mean that if a company is not listed here, it will give good service. It may merely mean that they have not been reported yet. All that this list tells you is that these companies that are listed are suspect. In order to find out whether a company is blacklisted you must telephone the relevant provincial consumer advice office:
